Prof Alice Thorneywork, Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry and Royal Society University Research Fellow
I studied Chemistry at Oxford as an undergraduate and then stayed on for a DPhil in Physical Chemistry. I moved to the Physics Department at Cambridge University where I began my independent research career as an Oppenheimer Research Fellow and then a Royal Society University Research Fellow. A few years later I returned to Oxford as Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry and Tutorial Fellow at Lincoln College. My team uses a mixture of colloids, microfluidics and nanofluidics to understand fluctuations and transport of materials in systems when they’re driven out of equilibrium. In my free time, I like to read (mainly fiction), cook, and go for long walks.

Monisha Singha, OxWiChem Events Team 23-24
I am currently a postdoctoral research associate in the Schofield group at the University of Oxford and the INEOS Oxford Institute of Antimicrobial Research. Originally from India, I completed my PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, focusing on organic reactive intermediates and chemical probes. During my PhD, I was a visiting graduate student at Johns Hopkins University, USA, and after completing my PhD, I worked as a research scientist at IIT Kharagpur. My present postdoctoral research focuses on developing novel antibiotic combination therapies to combat bacterial infections and antibiotic resistance in humans. Outside of my research, I enjoy classical dance, reading, and cooking.
