Prof Dame Carol Robinson DBE FRS FMedSci FRSC, Dr Lee's Professor of Chemistry, Director of the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery at Oxford

I started my career as a lab technician at Pfizer before gaining academic qualifications and becoming a research scientist. My research group is focused on understanding protein interactions in the gas phase in order to gain insights into drug discovery targets. To achieve this goal, we use mass spectrometry instrumentation and methods. Meanwhile, at the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, we collaborate to understand cells and proteins to address questions across a range of biological research themes. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling, running, watching sports, and trying out new recipes.

Shoba Laxmi, OxWiChem Chair 23-24

I’m a 2nd year DPhil Student in Inorganic Chemistry from Singapore. My current research endeavours lie in the interface of biology and chemistry, focusing on the intricate field of metalloenzymes with a specific emphasis on structure-function-activity studies of nitrogenases. My PhD works employs an amalgamation of various spectroscopic techniques with electrochemistry and protein crystallography to comprehensively characterize the elusive redox intermediates in nitrogenases. When I am not thinking about chemistry, I enjoy gardening, nature walks, dabbling occasionally in photography, and am an avid F1 fan.
